PRELIMINARY CONCEPT DESIGN
A first concept for the Masterplan of a new polyfunctional center in St. Petersburg, 10 km from the city center and overlooking the Baltic Sea. The very strong relationship with the sea is highlighted in the first draft sketches: large architectural complexes are conceived as enormous icebergs emerging from the cold, deep blue waters.
The project was designed by placing the buildings according to a centripetal generating logic. The volume composition was then unified by a large multifunctional square at 10 m above sea level, a platform that, with its sequence of positive and negative spaces, evokes suggestive sensations towards the sea.
